Where is my .fwl file?
Windows
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds_local\
Linux / dedicated server
~/.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local/ (or the folder your server's -savedir points to)
Steam Cloud worlds
In game, pick the world, choose Manage saves and move it to local first.

Installing the edited file

  1. Stop the server or quit the game. Valheim rewrites the .fwl when it saves, which would undo your edit.
  2. Back up both the .fwl and the .db for the world.
  3. Replace only the .fwl with the downloaded file. Keep the same file name, and leave the .db alone.
  4. Start the server and check the new settings in game.

If your server's start command already has -preset, -modifier or -setkey, those are applied when the server starts and can override the file. Remove them, or use the launch arguments above instead of the file.
